At The Lakes we are passionate about Jesus. Every Sunday he is the focus of our gatherings: we sing about him, and talk about him. But our excitement about Jesus goes way beyond what we do on Sundays. We want to follow him and live for him day by day, moment by moment.
Why we are so passionate about Jesus?
When you read the ancient biographies of Jesus, the big question on everyone’s lips is: who is Jesus? Here was a man who healed the sick, raised the dead, walked on water, calmed the storm, and handed out God’s forgiveness. When you put all the pieces of the puzzle together, it drives you to one conclusion: that Jesus is God’s king!
Jesus was brutally beaten and killed as a criminal. It is not the way you expect God’s king to be treated. Yet, Jesus taught his followers that he had to suffer in this way, because he was not dying for his own sin. When Jesus died he died as the saviour of the world, and when he rose again it was proof that the job had been done, and that Jesus was God’s victorious king!
What does it mean to follow him?
So following Jesus means firstly, trusting in him: in his death and resurrection. And secondly, treating him as king and seeking to live for him.
