Deuteronomy – Choose Life

Choose_Life_Deuteronomy_BOB_2This term we study the book of Deuteronomy. Here we arrive at a point where God has proven Himself faithful by bringing the Israelites to the edge of the Promised Land. Moses gives a series of sermons where he urges them to choose life. Set before the Israelites, set before us, is God’s word giving us a choice between life and death.

Deuteronomy 30:19 – “This day I call the heavens and the earth as witnesses against you that I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses. Now choose life, so that you and your children may live.”

The 10 Commandments: a brief moral code that has become one of the foundations of our world. They were first spoken to a rag-tag bunch of runaway slaves and they were radically different to the cultural thinking of that time, but these ‘10 Words’ have gone on to have a profound effect on the whole Western world – our morality, our Law, the values of our society. One reason why they have endured and had such influence is that they answer the deepest questions of the human heart: Is there really a God? What is God like? How can I live in right relationship with this God? We look forward to hearing what God has for us from this part of His Word this morning.
