The Lakes Church under the sponsorship of its Tuesdays at Ten (TTs) Group holds a service on the third Friday of each month at 10.00am at Glengara Retirement Village. The purpose of the service is to reconnect with retirees in the village who may have stopped going to church or were never really involved. The service includes traditional hymns and songs ably accompanied on organ by Chris Lowbridge, Bible Reading, prayer and an exposition of scripture by Ian Mears, a retired Anglican Minister.

Our culture enjoys these reality shows on television which show exceeding kindness and compassion to people who have done so much in our community or are experiencing hardship. We share in the emotion as the recipients are overcome with joy on receiving such generosity. And isn’t it wonderful that some people can receive a blessing like this! The producers of the TV show consider they deserve this special treatment – this offer of kindness.

Now if God were producing the TV show, he would see our situation very differently, because God considers our rejection of him as serious and needing to be dealt with. Do we not deserve his punishment? But!

Let us pause here, to explain, for many of us maybe confused about Christianity and what it offers.

Relationships are at the crux of the matter! God created us to be in relationship with him, however we have cut ourselves off from God and have run life our own way. We have accepted his wonderful creation and the life he has given us- and yet we refuse to acknowledge God. Consequently we face judgement.

Therefore unlike the reality show –we do not deserve any kindness from God for we are in rebellion of his role in our lives. We say ‘Who needs God’. And unlike the reality show God has offered us freedom from the consequences of judgement. And this salvation is not a random act of kindness. It is purposeful –for God wants to restore a relationship with us, and it is not for a selected few -it is for everyone who accepts his offer of forgiveness.

In the TV reality show I have not seen anybody refuse an act of kindness – and I wonder why we find it so hard to accept God’s offer of kindness (mercy). So Christianity embraces a restored relationship with God, brought about by faith in what Jesus has done for us.

The reality is that God’s Act of Kindness is on offer for all – for in his love and mercy his one desire is that we return into a relationship with him and experience his love for us.

Come and enjoy our next meeting and hear more of God’s kindness in forgiving a prostitute facing execution.

Conversations Jesus had with those he encountered during his ministry.
This year we are looking at some of the many conversations and encounters Jesus had during his ministry here on our earth.
When Jesus related to people he was able to reveal to them what was the true nature of their heart, and offer a way of change which would heal them. Some saw the truth he was bringing into their lives others hardened their hearts against him. And that is true even today.
The world throws many philosophies on how we should live. But with Jesus we have someone we can trust and rely on. He knows us intimately and knows what is best for us. Furthermore even though we have rejected him he died that we might have life.
The bible puts it this way:
You see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly. Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous man, though for a good man someone might possibly dare to die. But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
Romans 5: 7-9
