Celebrating the land God has given

Yesterday, Sunday 2oth May, we had a time of celebration of the land God has generously provided for our church. We had over 200 people enjoy a BBQ lunch, jumping castle, and stroll around the land. We gave thanks to God for his generous provision over the past 10 years. We sang together, prayed and celebrated the Lord’s Supper. It was a wonderful time. Here are some photos:

On Sunday 20th May we are having a celebration BBQ lunch on our block of land. God has been so generous to us in providing a block of land. We want to give him thanks. We also want to do something on it together. Here is the plan:

1pm BBQ lunch

2pm short gathering of prayer, Bible reading, song and Lord’s supper

Bring your own chair or blanket. There will be a jumping castle and games for the kids.
Bring $4 per person for BBQ lunch and a drink.
Where? 6 Pioneer Ave, Tuggerah (we will have access to toilets across the road).

10 years and powering on

On Sunday we had a lunch at our place for those who were part of our core group and are still powering on at The Lakes. In July 2001 a core group of around 30 Christians gathered to begin planning towards planting a new church in the Tuggerah Lakes region. During the second half of 2001 we met monthly, then weekly as we headed towards a launch in January 2002.

As we gathered for lunch we were reminded of God’s faithfulness to us in answering our prayers: in providing a venue just in time for our church to kick off; in providing class-rooms for our kids from the first week of winter 2002; we were blessed to have people becoming Christians in our first year. There is so much to thank God for!

Genesis Series: Kicks off 29th April

This term we will be working our way through the Abraham passages in Genesis 12 to 25. These chapters are focussed on God and his promises. God keeps his promises to Abraham in spite of threats where it seems like the promises will fail. We see God’s sovereignty over human history. We ought to respond by faith in God and his promises just as Abraham did.

Last year we learnt from Genesis 1–11. Those chapters set the story of Israel into the context of God’s dealings with the whole world. In Genesis 12, God makes some key promises to Abraham. These promises not only drive the unfolding narrative of Genesis, but drive the rest of the Bible’s story. It is difficult to overstate the importance of these promises. We ought to see that the promises ultimately find their fulfilment in Abraham’s seed Jesus.

Bilingual Service – This Tuesday 7.30pm

The Bilingual Church Service is on this Tuesday, 7.30pm at the Ourimbah Primary School (Pacific Hwy, Ourimbah). David Sheath will be preaching from Luke 18. David will preach in English and be translated into Mandarin 普通话. You are most welcome to come and join us.

The Douglas family: our missionaries from China

It is our pleasure to have Paul Douglas joining us for a week in April. Paul and his family have been our missionaries in China over the past seven years. Paul will be preaching God’s word during the week and also reporting on their ministry in China, what their plans are for the future and how we can be involved in prayer and practical support. Below are the events that Paul will be speaking at. Make sure you put the relevant dates in your diary:

Sunday 22/04/12

Paul will be preaching and presenting information at our 8:30 am – 10:30 am and 5pm services. Paul will be preaching different sermons morning and night so why not come along twice!

Monday 23/04/12

Paul will be talking to our Growth Groups at Tuggerah Lakes Community Centre, along Bay Village Rd at 7:30pm -9pm. ( Near the Bateau Bay Shopping Centre)

Tuesday 24/04/12

Paul will be with our WOW group (Women of the Word) at The Entrance Baptist Church (8 Yakalla Street, Bateau Bay ) between 9:30 – 11:00am. All the Tuesdays @ 10 group are invited as well as anyone who is not able to attend the night-time seminars.

Tuesday night Paul will be speaking to our members of the Chinese Church between 7:30 – 9pm at Ourimbah Primary School. Everyone is welcome to come along.

Wednesday 25/04/12

Paul will give us another opportunity to hear him speak between 7:30-9pm at Tuggerah Lakes Community Centre. If you missed out on Monday night here is another opportunity to come along.

Weekend Away: 20th to 22nd July

This year at the weekend away the topic will be the Bible. The Bible was completed in the 1st century but we now live in the 21st century. How can we hold onto the Bible as our authority when it comes under such constant attack. What place should the Bible have in our thinking and living as Christ’s disciples today?

The date: 20th to 22nd July.

The location: The WEC centre at Morisset.

The registration form includes details of cost, accommodation, meals and other details. You will notice a change this year with reduced cost for daytime visitors. We are hoping that you will recognize the value of being at the church weekend away for the whole time and to get into the atmosphere of it by staying overnight. However, we would rather that you not miss out by doing day visits rather than choose not to attend at all. Please feel free to discuss any difficulties or terms with Russell Windon (p:4388 4138)

Every year our weekend away is our key connecting event: where we get to know one another more deeply as we get to know God more deeply. Make sure you are part of what promises to be a wonderful weekend.

10th birthday celebrations

This year The Lakes turns 10 years old.

On the weekend of the 15th and 16th of September we will be celebrating our 10th anniversary with a special dinner on Saturday night, and a special service on Sunday. We will be inviting all those who have attended and supported our church to come and join our celebrations. Please let me know if you would be eager to help organise the celebrations.

Praise God that he has grown a little core group of 40 into a thriving church of 400 plus! It has been a privilege to have been part of God’s wonderful work of building his church and gathering people to know Christ.
