How Challenges Work- target 19th Dec

Posted on 13. Oct, 2010 by in Blog, Challenges

The aim of these challenges is to:

1. Provide some ideas and guidance of how to grow in knowledge and strategies/skills in different areas of the Christian life.

2. Provide a motivation for working on and growing in these areas by

  • giving a timeframe to work towards and
  • accountability to someone

3. Help to clarify your ideas of what you are learning as you put it on to paper or try to explain it to someone else

Who can do the challenge?

  • Anyone.
  • It can be completed by individuals of any age.
  • It can be completed more than once eg at the age of 12, 24, 53. (This is because the focus is on growth not on perfecting something).
  • It can be completed by families – especially with young children you may choose to make it a family challenge where everyone participates to their own ability. (eg you may have different people learning different memory verses or else all help to remember one)

When the person/family has completed the challenge:

  • they can meet with an “older” Christian/mentor to show and discuss the progress they have made.
  • a certificate will be given to people to acknowledge that they have completed the challenge.

How the challenge works:

  • There is no exam to complete, so each person will complete each challenge to the best of their ability and satisfaction at that time.
  • None of us will achieve a perfect result. The aim is to have grown in the areas of the challenge (not to have reached perfection).
  • There will be a suggested time to have completed the challenge and meet with the mentors (for instance, the prayer challenge will conclude on 19th Dec).
  • You can contact a “mentor” at any time to discuss what you are learning and to ask for direction/suggestions.
  • There is no perfect/right way to do each aspect of the challenge – God has made us all individuals and so we will reflect that in the different ways we approach this challenge.

What other challenges will there be?

  • We are aiming to develop a number of challenges – hopefully one a term. Have you got any suggestions? Feel free to leave a reply below or just let me know.
