Depending on the age of your children you could aim to pray for one thing/person/family a day or you could pray for a number eg 4 if there are 4 people old enough to pray regularly in your family.
Don’t forget to include by name:Grandparents Extended family Family friends |
Other suggestionsOur church friends Our School Friends Our Teachers Kidz Biz Teachers The Douglases The Gillhams Mum and Dad Kids Church Teachers |
Thank you for:Making Our world Dying for us and Forgiving us Listening to us Being strong enough to help us. Our family Our friends |
Help us to be:Kind Patient Loving Wise Obedient Respectful Learning about God |
Eg. On a page for 4 things a day you could have:
1. the name and photo of Grandma and Grandpa
2. Thank God for making the world
3. Help us to be kind
4. Our school friends.
When to have a family prayer time?
When you think it is most realistic and doable (consider when you are most likely to be at home together and when the kids are in a fairly positive frame of mind).
eg. At breakfast
At Grace –before dinner
Between dinner and dessert (we have found this works best for us)
At bedtime
Will you have a family bible reading at the same time?
Read what is appropriate to the concentration levels of the people in the family. When our children were younger we read 2 or 3 verses of Proverbs and even acted them out to help explain what they were saying, now we can read a whole chapter of Proverbs or another book.
A helpful thing is to give prayer points to different members of the family as a response to the passage you have just read, eg. “Daniel could you please thank God that He protects us, Micah can you pray that we will always trust God, Sarah can you pray that we won’t be tricked into thinking money is really important”.
