Strategies for Prayer

Plan to Pray -think of when you would like to pray and aim to make that a habit eg in the car on the way out for the day, before you get up, at meal times… (use a physical reminder such as a sticker initially until it is a habit)
Practical ways to stop mental drift – pray out loud, use a prayer list, write in a journal, kneel down, pray with someone else (in person, on phone, email prayer points)…
Prayer partners –praying with someone else regularly, purposefully
Prayer models – people to copy- learn from each other
prayers to copy– especially from the bible
personality-you are to pray to God as you, you don’t need a pray voice or special words, or to pray long prayers like someone else.
Prayer Plan –system-helps you be faithful, systematic and purposeful in prayer
Public Prayers- it is OK (even good) to write down what you want to pray so that you can be clear
Pray until you Pray- when you don’t feel like it pray anyway
“prayer is the fruit of a relationship with God, not a technique for acquiring blessings”
“A Call to Spiritual Reformation” by D.A. Carson
Ruth thinks it should be called “About Prayer – especially from Pauls Prayers”)
